MOTABILITY FOR WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VEHICLES

If you are eligible for a mobility allowance, for example from Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA), Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP), War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or Armed Forces Independence payment and have at least 12 months’ award length remaining, then the Mobility Scheme enables you to exchange all or part of your mobility allowance to lease a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), new car, powered wheelchair or scooter.

Having chosen a vehicle, payments are deducted directly from your higher rate mobility allowance every four weeks.

The standard lease is over 3 years (or 5 years for a WAV) and running costs such as insurance, service and maintenance, breakdown assistance and windscreen and tyre repair and replacement are taken care of. (Fuel costs are not covered.)

The vehicles must be used by or for the benefit of the disabled person (this means that a named driver can use the vehicle without the disabled person in the car so long as they will benefit from the journey – for example, shopping and other routine activities).

Having understood, agreed to, and agreed to follow the terms and conditions for using your Motability Scheme Vehicle it gives you flexible and affordable access to a new vehicle of your choice and the mobility solution that you need.
