  5. NO MORE FLAT BATTERIES...

Electric retractors are used for convenience as front tie downs where space is limited to secure a wheelchair and they are operated directly from the vehicle’s electrical system.  In Lewis Reed vehicles they work off a small button at the rear of the vehicle. When the button is turned on the wheelchair retractors can freely move forwards or backwards into the vehicle but when turned off the retractors lock and safely secure the wheelchair user in place.  They can should be switched off when pushing wheelchair users up the ramp as it is a safer way of entering the vehicle without fear of rolling backwards. However, over the years, we have noticed that many carers forget to turn this button off after using it and here is where the problem lies.

If this button is left on for a few days, you may find that the car battery is completely dead. Disaster!

Lewis Reed have recognised this problem and eliminated it on their conversions.

We have designed some clever circuitry so that after 12 minutes, if the car is stationary, or, whenever the car drives off, the power to the retractors will automatically be turned off eliminating the battery problem but still retaining the functionality and making sure the belts are locked when travelling.

No more battery drain problems equals happy customers.

Lewis Reed’s specialist design team are constantly making further improvements to their conversions making them quieter and smoother and more versatile than any other conversion on the market.
